JAMES GULLIVER HANCOCK
So before I begin this post, let me first say this this guy is awesome. Okay now that's out the system, let me tell you a little bit more about said guy, who happens to be the wonderful Australian artist/ illustrator/ technical drawer extraordinaire that is James Gulliver Hancock, who now resides in Brooklyn, NYC. If you've read quite a few of my art posts, then you'll know that most originate from a scribbled down note of the artists name on my beloved iPod Touch, which I then normally take anywhere between a day to a good three months to actually get round to revisiting. I just checked my iPod now and James' name has been down for a month already, which is why I figured there is indeed no time like the present to celebrate another creative mastermind of the world, which brings us to here, back to where I tell you about James Gulliver Hancock instead of rambling on as per usual about only slightly relevant things.
James was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and has been an avid art fanatic ever since he was a little child, with a particular penchant for the techincal drawing branch of art. He went on to study Visual Communications at Sydney's University of Technology and since graduating has developed his work further by incorporating gorgeous tones of colour into his highly detailed and beautifully intricate drawings that depict the little details intertwined into the world around us, gradually working his way up to form the bigger picture. James has also been on the receiving end of massive and well deserved success since becoming a fully fledged illustrator, working with the likes of Coca Cola, Ford, Pay Pal, Ebay, Sony, MTV and The New York Times. He's also travelled the world and successfully transferred his illustrations onto a wide variety of items that can be bought in his on-line store as well as various locations across the UK (I found his bags in Manchester!) and the world. And if all that wasn't enough, James is also the mastermind behind the awesome project 'All The Buildings In New York' in which he's set himself the monumental challenge to draw every building in New York City.
As someone who adores the beauty and sublimity of the wonderful and varied architecture that surrounds us every single day, as well as trying to draw them for myself, I love how James successfully captures and depicts the buildings he sees, as well as the quirky illustrative touch he adds to every image. Marvelling through his ever growing body of artwork is a complete and utter joy, which is why I'd love to share some of my favourites with you guys, as well as hopefully inspire you to sometimes look up and admire the discrete beauty of the world that's built around you....
