CARA, KATE, MANGO
I'm always a sucker for a good old Cara - Kate collaboration, as expertly seen in recent advertising campaigns by the British fashion house Burberry. I love the juxtaposition of two of the most iconic fashion models of all time together, the colliding of the modern and the classic, as well as the images created when the two interact with one another on set. It's like this special unique magic is created so effortlessly and beautifully. The seemingly never ageing, eternally fierce, graceful modelling goddess Kate Moss is the face of modelling, the face of generations, an iconic cultural marker of sorts, a long time established purveyor of fashion who can do no wrong once she steps in front a camera lens. And then there's the equally fierce, bold and brave Cara Delevingne who always commands the camera with such ease. Who is also the face of a generation and fashion evolution, a pioneer of sorts, what with her successful foray into film, her honest constructive criticism of the fashion industry that launched her and her openness regarding her sexuality. The two of them are notable figures of the fashion industry. It wouldn't be what it is now without Cara and Kate having descended upon the scene and left their unmissable signature marks. They're two strong, inspiring, intelligent women with the advantage of benefiting from those expertly crafted model looks, and when you bring the two of them together something amazing happens. Between Cara and Kate you see everything from what fashion was, what it is today and where it could be in future. The blissful intertwining of two very different generations and experiences in the current day, the uniting force of two very powerful women, to create something truly wonderful.
The gorgeous photographs I simply had to feature on this post derive not from Burberry this time, but from the utterly fabulous, eternally chic and innovative Spanish brand Mango. As part of their A/W 2015 campaign, the brand chose to tap into that magical Cara-Kate combination that worked so well for Burberry, and have acclaimed photographs Inez and Vinoodh shoot the two in Canada back in May. The direction of the campaign is very much Cara and Kate channelling the relaxed infamous 70's boho look with bold, detailed paisley prints, flares, free flowing materials, tassels and trimming, masculine waist coats and jackets, stomping boots but all with a modern, fresh take. The clothing is a dream, the perfect blend of refined, conservative mixed with a thousand dreams. It's fun and wild, yet so simple and clean cut. I love it. There's no doubt that all the aspects of this brilliant campaign, from Kate and Cara, to the beautiful clothes, to the 70's vibes, to the expert photography and mix up of monochrome and technicolour, come together absolutely perfectly. And if you love the fashion forays you're seeing, then the best part of all is that all these clothes are in Mango stores worldwide right now, so why not go take a look and see which iconic pieces you find.
